Easter Dresses and Entertaining

As I sit here looking out at our garden, I can't help but be inspired by it: the colours, the wildlife, the stillness. Easter is such a symbolic time - whether you are a Christian or not - it is full of new life. Until this time of year, I am a reluctant socialiser, preferring to eat and drink too much and watch far too many re-runs of Midsummer Murders. I am well aware that makes me sound like a 90 year old. But there it is.

Easter brings with it the promise of summer: of picnics in the grounds of National Trust properties; barbecues with friends; longer days to spend with loved ones. Add to that the chocolate and days off and Easter has to rate highly amongst your favourite times of year.

As ever, I take my inspiration from nature. Outside my window are golden daffodils craning towards the warming sun, skirted by purple and cream crocuses, and a scattering of industrious bluebells. This fresh colour palette is perfect for this time of year. The first breath of fresh air of the season to come.

Our Easter table.

Big Yellow Teapot by Jamie Oliver. It produces endless cups of tea! Pssst! It's on eBay.

Beautiful handmade Easter card by Katy Ayers, available at The Jane Austen House and Museum Shop, Chawton.

This is my new favourite item. This old French ceramic bunny was bought for £6.99 from Oxfam. Similar items are available on eBay and at Cox&Cox.

Delicious chocolate eggs wrapped in brightly coloured foil, 2 for £3 at M&S.

Easter isn't Easter without yellow chicks and hot cross buns. Chicks are £3 for 6 at Paperchase. Hot cross buns are homemade. They're not the easiest things to make, but it's very rewarding when you do get them right! I recommend Paul Hollywood's recipes. His instructions are fool-proof.
The antique Art Deco tea set is by Susie Cooper. It came from a charity shop. The bird place mats are available at Susie Watson.
The beautiful hand embroidered tablecloth cost just £8 from Love Lane Vintage
Pastel napkins, £18 for 6, John Lewis.

Buy or bake sweet treats for your guests. These vintage style tins can be kept and reused. Available at National Trust shops. The gorgeous daffodils are from our garden.

Cecilia Grey Daisy dress by Allium B, £125. I just love the Liberty print on this one: so delicate and misty.
Floral Print Day Dress, M&Co, £39
Nautical Print Tea Dress, M&Co, £39
Floral Dress in Opal Blue Blossom, Joules, £64.95
Aphrodite Pleated Dress, Great Plains, £55
Another beautiful storybook design from Poppy. Beatrice Dress, Poppy England, £154
Tahari Prom Dress in Watercolour Floral Print, available at asos, £140
Pretty Embroidered Dress, Boden, £99
Floral Shirt Dress, River Island, £48

Happy Easter, everyone xxx
